Brevini Australia managing director, Greg Bunn, announced the formation of a new joint venture company, Leonessa Brevini Yancheng. Co-owned by La Leonessa and Brevini Power Transmission Group, the company is currently constructing a dedicated manufacturing centre in Yangcheng, China.
The plant, which is slated to open and start manufacturing in early 2012, will increase the production capacity of La Leonessa slew ring bearings, to concentrate on larger units from 400 mm to 4,000 mm.
Brevini Australia has been supplying slew ring bearings from La Leonessa of Italy since 2001 to the Australian market.
La Leonessa slew rings easily take axial and radial loads and are available in a heavy duty range, in diameters ranging from 300 to 2100 mm. Larger units will be available from 2012, with the opening of the new plant.
The bearings come in different configurations, with external or internal gear, or without gear. As well, according to the type of load, La Leonessa slew rings are available with one row of balls, two rows of balls and one row of rollers.
The slew rings are used in a wide range of applications, including stacker machines, cranes, excavators, access platforms, forestry machinery and more.
“When the Yancheng facility comes on stream, we should be able to provide the local market with larger bearings which are ideal in applications like cranes and drill rigs,” said Bunn.
Bunn added that he is looking forward to the opportunities of new markets that will be made available with the larger bearings.
Brevini Australia is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Brevini Power Transmission Group.
